Memorial Day Weekend

This past weekend was super-busy.  Our friends (who are also our neighbors) invited us to go to their family reunion.  We spent Friday at the reunion dance and Saturday at their family carnival.  The weekend was rainy and cold, but we didn't let the weather stop us from having fun.

On Monday, Tevita played basketball with the missionaries and some of the young men from our ward.  Meanwhile, Asena and I picnicked and played at a park across the street from our church.  Afterwards we barbecued with the missionaries.

We hope you had a great weekend, too!

Solar Eclipse

Yesterday was the solar eclipse... and we were able to see it!  We gathered with our friends and neighbors in the parking lot outside of our apartment complex.  Our neighbors had a welders' lens that they passed around so that everyone could take turns seeing the eclipse.  It lasted for nearly an hour (thought the perfect ring formed by the maximum eclipse only lasted for a few minutes).  We weren't able to take pictures, but here's one I found online.  It was beautiful.

Fernley, NV

We've moved!  We're now in Fernley, Nevada.  It's a little town about 30 miles outside of Reno.  The last few weeks have been crammed full of packing, cleaning, saying goodbyes, driving, unpacking, and exploring. Tevita and I were sad to leave Rexburg, but we're glad to be starting a new chapter in our lives.

Asena doesn't seem to mind the move.  She loved "helping" us pack.  Mostly she hid in suitcases and boxes.

She's been a great unpacking helper, too.  Here's a picture of Asena "helping" some more.

Our new apartment is a little smaller than our last, but Asena still has plenty of room for her daily dance moves!

We've already been on a few adventures... Reno, Sparks, the local library, a couple small parks, church, a local ice cream shop, nightly walks, etc.  Yesterday we went to the super-beautiful Pyramid Lake.  It's a breeding ground for pelicans.  We got to see hundreds of them gathering there.

Asena had fun watching the birds, too.  :)  We walked around and had a little picnic.

Despite missing Rexburg, we've found that the old saying really is true...
Home is where your heart is.  ♥

Moving...

For those who haven't heard the news yet, Tevita was offered an internship with Sherwin-Williams.  We're moving to Nevada on Monday!  Stay tuned for more updates.  :)

Ducks and Bunnies

These last few weeks have been crazy!  Now that Rexburg is getting warm, Tevita and I spend a lot of time taking Asena on walks and to feed the ducks at the park.  The ducks made her feel a little timid at first, but now she loves throwing bread to the ducks (and likes when they come up to her).

On April 6th, Tevita and I graduated!  All four of our parents were able to be here for it (and Ben, too!).  We were so busy with family in town that we didn't do much for Easter, apart from going to a lovely service at church.  I had intended to make Asena an Easter basket or make a little mini egg hunt for her.  Maybe next year.  Even though we missed out on the baskets and eggs, we still got to play with our little Easter Bunny.

Sunday Walks

Growing up, I remember going on "Sunday walks."  We would walk, as a family, and enjoy the beauty of nature.  I have very fond memories of being together as a family, collecting leaves and rocks and other little treasures.  My favorite walks were in the fall, when the leaves were changing colors, and the spring, when everything was green and smelled so fresh and clean.

Sunday walks are a tradition that I wanted to carry on in my own family.  Now, most Sundays, when the weather is nice (or nice enough for at least a short stroll), we venture out to enjoy the weather and take time to look at a little piece of the beautiful world around us.
